On Saturday morning, August 8, volunteers from the Valley Emergency Readiness Group (VERG), delivered a community training to neighbors from the San Geronimo Valley.
12 participants took part in an intensive hour of instruction on the safe use of fire extinguishers along with basic techniques of bleeding control including tourniquet application. Retired battalion chief Brian McCarthy directed the fire extinguisher station while paramedics Alex Bernstein and Jim Fazackerley led the bleeding control lesson.
Each of our community trainings offers a complement of practical skills or a refresher of previous knowledge gained in programs like Get Ready Marin or the 2 day C.E.R.T. trainings. We’re fortunate in the San Geronimo Valley to be able to draw on the energy and talent of veteran first responders along with skilled construction and medical professionals all volunteering to help train or keep their neighborhoods safe.
