If you happened to be shopping at Whole Foods last Saturday, Sept. 19, you may have wondered about the green-vested folks running about and what sounded like screaming coming from the tower! That was our San Rafael CERT class, practicing all the emergency skills they had learned during their 18-hour training.

These graduates, mostly from San Rafael, and including Mayor Gary Phillips, are poised to be a great neighborhood resources in the event of a large-scale emergency. They learned fire suppression, first aid, basic search and rescue and organizational skills that will be critical as neighbors gather to help each other.

CERT is a national program under FEMA and these new graduates are now California Disaster Service Workers. Congratulations to all the new CERTs! View the gallery of photos too!

Many thanks for Station 51 for supporting our training!
