Tam High School in Mill Valley offered the first high school CERT training in Marin County last month to both students and instructors! We are excited to see our Teen CERT program up and running!
Working with firefighters from Mill Valley Fire, South Marin Fire, Tiburon Fire and Marin County Fire, the CERT students learned the principles of medical triage, fire suppression, light search and rescue, Incident Command System and team organization.
During the 18 hour training, there was lots of hands on practice, which enabled the CERT students, both high school students & instructors, an opportunity to learn new skills. The last afternoon’s Disaster Simulation Exercise, an earthquake scenario, provided additional time to practice those skills.
These teachers and students are now a great resource for not only Tam High but their home communities as well. Thank you to Wendy Stratton and Hans Goto, who coordinated the class.
