Advanced Training for CERTs

CERT graduates walk away from the basic CERT course with many skills. We have no idea when our skills will come into use, so it is critical to keep them fresh through our Advanced Training offerings. We have a variety of options throughout the year posted here. Most of the trainings are free and space is limited. Register today and stay prepared.

Disaster First Aid for CERTs

Saturday, March 28
9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Terra Linda Community Center, San Rafael

CERTs will potentially be working in response teams in their neighborhood and community after a large-scale emergency or disaster. This free, four-hour skill-building workshop trains participants to recognize life threats in 15 seconds, protect an airway and stop bleeding. Although designed for non-medical volunteers, many MDs, RNs and EMTs have attended the workshop and evaluated it as a timely and valuable update in knowledge and skills.

This course will be taught by members of Marin Medical Reserve Corp and is an advanced training for CERTs who have already graduated from the 18-hour basic training. Space is limited.

2015 Annual Marin County CERT Disaster Simulation

Saturday, May 2
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Trinity Community Church, San Rafael

Every year Marin County CERT runs a one-day skill refresher and disaster simulation. This year, for the first time, the simulation exercise will take place in a real neighborhood, the Dominican area of San Rafael. CERTs will set up and staff an Incident Command Post and deploy multi-hazard teams into a residential neighborhood. The morning review will focus on radio communications, triage skills and developing a stronger understanding of the Incident Command System. As always, firefighters from around the County will provide support and mentoring during the day.

This is an event not to be missed. Space is limited.
