Allen, Texas CERT & Hurricane Harvey

The aftermath of Harvey has revealed havoc on hundreds of miles of Texas coastline and inland areas over the past week. The category 4 hurricane and its accompanying floods have pushed hundreds of thousands of South Texas residents and commuters to North Texas to seek shelter and assistance.

On Saturday, August 26th, Allen CERT answered the call to staff the Dallas “Mega Shelter”, sending a handful of trained CERT responders to assist with the massive effort. Joining forces with other agencies such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, SPCA, Dallas OEM, and neighboring CERT jurisdictions, we have facilitated intake, shelter, food, water, and supplies for hundreds of evacuees arriving by the bus load throughout the day, and across several days.

We anticipate the need for assistance to last for weeks and will offer any resources at our disposal to ensure our fellow Texans – and Americans – are safe, secure, and comfortable. Read more at www.allentxcert.org.
