On Friday, September 23rd , the City of San Rafael Fire Department / Office of Emergency Services (SRFD/OES) supported a city-sponsored family-friendly community outreach and movie night event held at Pickleweed Park in the Canal Neighborhood. As with many other city departments present to engage with neighborhood residents in the Canal, SRFD/OES used this strategic opportunity to promote individual and family-focused preparedness ahead of a disaster. This included the provision of critical preparedness resources, answering questions from the Canal residents and encouraging individuals to sign up for alerts.
SRFD/OES setup a community outreach table, which drew the attention from parents and children alike, including representatives from local organizations who expressed interest in bilingual public education sessions from SRFD/OES in future activities they hold. For the subsequent Movie Night display in the open field, SRFD/OES coordinated with the City’s Library and Recreation Department to project short preparedness clips in Spanish focused on Alert Marin sign-up prior to the feature movie presentation ‘Encanto’ as an effort to highlight the importance of being prepared.
SRFD/OES would also like to thank the Canal Alliance and Voces del Canal for their support in co-tabling and engaging with community members.
